My Mom always makes her bread by hand. That's how I learned. I have tried several different roll recipes, but I always come back to hers because it is sooo easy, and requires little ingredients. I started this batch of rolls by rolling the dough into fancy shapes but then got rushed with the needs of children. I finished with just plopping the dough down in a circle.
In a Pyrex glass combine and let double:
2 T yeast
2 T sugar
1 cup warm water
While the yeast is rising combine in a large bowl or mixer the following:
10 cups flour ( I use 1 cup of wheat)
1/2 cup sugar
1 T salt
Then add the bubbly yeast mixture to the flour mix along with the following:
3 cups warm water
1/2 cup oil
mix by hand for about 5 minutes or with a mixer on low for 2 minutes.
Let rise till doubled. Divide into 2 loaves of bread and a giant batch of rolls. Let rise till doubled -about an hour.
Bake at 375 for 30 minutes. The rolls bake for about 10 to 20 minutes depending on how many you put on your cookie sheet. Brush melted butter over the rolls as soon as you take them out of the oven.
I want to try this recipe. I have a question though...
ReplyDeleteAfter you add the bubbly yeast mixture to the 3 cups warm water and 1/2 cup oil, do I combine that with the 10 cup flour mixture?! I know, what a dumb question, but I don't want to screw it up! :)

I have always loved your mom's homemade bread. I was just thinking that I wanted to call her and get the recipee. Then I saw this on here and was so excited I had to make it. It turned out really yummy and moist. It also stayed that way for a long time. I have tried others and they tend to be dry. Matt again loved it. Thanks for putting it on here. Oh, I cut it in half so I would just get two loaves of bread. I didn't need the rolls and it worked out great.
ReplyDeleteHi Ruby, I watched the YouTube video and then came here for the recipe. I made the bread and I find it too sweet for a loaf. Should there really be 1/2 cup sugar? I re watched your video and did not see you add it?
ReplyDeleteHi Ruby, Finally made the bread (Feb 2/2016) after a couple months of coming across Worried about Grandpa Video.
ReplyDeleteMy son had lots of fun making it with me, and stole a couple of buns when I wasn't watching.
My daughters were pretty happy with them too once we got home around 8:45pm (I hustled them to the bus so we could take an 1hr +7min bus ride to a drop-in playgroup).
Kids get to stay home & enjoy the buns some more ;p Tiny bit of freezing rain & the school buses are cancelled! (My family thinks I'm strange because I love when the kids get to stay home!)
Thanks to you & your mom for sharing the recipe!

I just made this recipe and it is so good. I cut the recipe in half and it made 16 dinner rolls, so I am pretty sure it will make two loaves of bread as well. They are so light too. I brushed them with butter before I baked them, and not after. Thanks for sharing this recipe, and I love watching your family on YouTube.
ReplyDeleteDoes the T mean table spoon or teaspoon
